David Andreu, a civil and structural engineer working at Ward and Burke’s Head Office in Kilcolgan, took the Higher Diploma in Engineering in Building Information Modelling at ATU to keep up with the fast-changing world of construction.
He says staying ahead of digital advancements is incredibly important, “Designs done with a pen and paper not that long ago are now done with computer programs. Engineers and their expertise will always be needed, but it has become critical to understand how quickly the construction industry changes and be ready for it.”
The flexibility of the blended course made it work despite his demanding full-time role.
“I was even able to defer a course module to the following year due to work constraints, which facilitated the completion of the course.”
David is already applying his new skills at work as he has become extremely proficient with BIM software such as Revit and Civil 3D.
“That knowledge is particularly helpful when working with consultants and subcontractors and dealing with the Common Data Environment and BIM Standards. Keeping those courses accessible for everyone is very important.”
And his message to others considering upskilling with DASBE?
“I would strongly encourage it! When your CV lands in the hands of a potential employer, the line highlighting your DASBE funded qualification will make you stand out from the crowd.”
DASBE funding is available until September 2025. Apply here
